I don’t get it when parents are disappointed if their child cries in Santa’s lap. Don’t get me wrong; I was thrilled last year when Eleanora sat happily for several snapshots with Mr. Claus. But to me, there is just no better – or more classic – Christmas photo than a child wailing in terror in the lap of the Jolly Old Elf.

Before you think I sound like a big meanie, check out this photo from several years ago of my sweet nieces, Fiona (screaming) and Emily (smiling). It is my favorite Christmas photo of all time.

I hope you had a very happy Thanksgiving. We sure did. We were in Philadelphia with Hubba Bubba’s family, where we enjoyed a lovely Turkey Day with family & friends, had a big time at the fabulous Please Touch Museum, and devoured some seriously amazing cheesesteaks and roast pork sandwiches at George’s Sandwich Shop on 9th Street in Philadelphia in the heart of the Italian market. The Guy Fieri types like to highlight Pat’s and Geno’s on Food Network shows, but take it from me… if you ever find yourself in Philadelphia, go straight to George’s and have Mark and his daughter Audrey hook you up.

And now that Thanksgiving is over… let’s move on to CHRISTMAS.

My friend Sydney is taking a two-week vacation to Thailand (raise your hand if you’re jealous), and she asked if I had any suggestions for travel music. Do I ever.

But with the holidays coming up, Sydney isn’t the only one packing her suitcase. Hubba Bubba, Eleanora, and I – like many others – are among those who will be in the air and on the road this Thanksgiving. While I realize some folks can’t resist starting the Christmas music on November 1 (present company secretly included), here is a non-holiday, anytime travel playlist for those who aren’t quite ready for holiday carols… and for those needing a break from Jingle Bell Rock.

We’re back from a visit to Kentucky! Our first order of business was to get my best friend, Jenny, married to her knight in shining armor, Brett. I don’t have a photo of her as bride (since I was a bridesmaid and was carrying a bouquet of flowers in lieu of my camera or iPhone). But here she is a couple of years ago posing with another knight in shining armor.

And here I am with my dear friends Amelia and Glenda at the wedding reception. This black and white comes to you courtesy of Glenda and her husband, David.
