My dad always used to tell me, “Don’t wish your life away.” But that’s exactly what I do every year from October 1 all the way through New Year’s.

This morning, my dear friend Octavia Spencer was NOMINATED FOR AN ACADEMY AWARD. Holy moly! And just a couple of weeks ago, she took home the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Minny in The Help.

If I may brag for a moment, I met Octavia through Uncle Josh when I was 17 years old. Full disclosure: I’m 31 now. She is one of the loveliest, brightest, most “salt-of-the-earth” people you could ever meet. She has sat at our table for many Thanksgiving dinners and other family gatherings, and being in her presence is like watching that video of the baby panda getting startled by a sneeze. She is DELIGHTFUL, y’all.

As some of you may remember (“some of you” referring in particular to Haley and Branch), The Lexingtonienne nabbed an *exclusive* interview with Octavia in July of 2010, just before filming of The Help began. CHECK IT OUT AGAIN RIGHT HERE!

Today Eleanora is one year, one month, and one day old.

    EBD 13 months old

I am thinking of and praying for Olivia Anne Hellwig and her family more than ever today. Last September, Olivia was killed in a tragic accident as a careless, hurried driver sped through a crosswalk in reverse.

Olivia was one year, one month, and one day old.

Olivia is the niece of our dear friends Jen and Adrian, and you can read more about her in a beautifully and thoughtfully written post on Adrian’s blog, Dad or Alive.

Please say a prayer for Olivia and her family. Please hug your babies tight to you. And please, please, please exercise hyper-diligence at all times while driving. Look around. Slow down. No hurry is worth a sweet baby’s life.

    Love,
    Hannah
