Every Thanksgiving for the past several years, Hubba Bubba and I have done the full Turkey Day spread. This year, however, we’re traveling to Philadelphia to spend the holiday with his family. So while my own kitchen will be quiet on my favorite Thursday of the year, here are a few tried-and-true recipes that are perfect for any Thanksgiving table.
Southern-Style Green Beans – If the word “home” had a flavor, this would be it.
Basic Cornbread Dressing – Classic and quintessential.
Holiday Cranberry Jell-O Salad – Trust me!
Sweet Potato Casserole – More subtly sweet than “candied yams.” Even if you add marshmallows.
Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie – No matter how full they are, people always find room for a slice… or two.
And if you need an easy centerpiece, here’s a super simple idea. Fill a vase with cranberries (use a lot of cranberries, since they float to the top when you add water) and trim some fall-colored roses to fit the vase. I like my roses all crowded together, and it takes a lot more than you think to get that look. It depends on the size of your vase, but you’ll likely need at least 2 dozen. Between 2 bowl-shaped vases, I used 4 dozen roses. It looks fancy but it is soooo not: I bought my cranberries and roses at Ralph’s (aka Kroger).
I hope you and your family and friends have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’ll be back the week after next with photos from Philly!
