Overview The Supervising Medical Support Assistant position works within the Medical Administration Services (MAS) at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center. Responsibilities Supervising MSAs at this level plan and direct programs at medical centers and/or satellite clinics and have full supervision responsibilities for supervising at least one junior team leader or supervisor. This level of responsibility includes, but is not limited to: Evaluate the work of junior staff. Solve complex problems to reliably deliver patient care. Evaluate new products, devices and systems and make recommendations to improve operations. Determine education or training needs. Make final decisions on employment choices. Evaluate performance and take disciplinary action when necessary. The employee has a sub-manager, supervisor, and managerial and professional responsibility for planning and directing the activities of her MSA. Responsible for extracting and analyzing data and providing reports to senior management to support performance measurement. Preference will be given to those who can demonstrate managerial or leadership positions in the medical field. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm Telework: Not suitable for telework. English Proficiency: MSAs are required to have excellent spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Clause 3j. Experience/Education: Experience: Six months of administrative, clinical planning, administrative, customer service, or other management experience. Demonstrates the ability to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the job responsibilities. Or educational background: he is one higher in high school. Or a combination of experience and education: An equivalent combination of experience and education gives an entry-level qualification where both education and experience are accepted. Grade Determination, GS-8: Applicant is one grade lower ( GS-07) equivalent of 1 year experience. Ability to provide briefings, orientation, staff development and training in patient settings. Ability to manage tax operations, anticipate resource and equipment needs, and determine budgetary needs. Advanced knowledge of managing or directing patient care staff in a clinic. This includes independent use of reference sources, decision making, and enabling teams to collaborate and solve problems in complex system environments. Qualifying experience must be on par with her MSA experience at her GS-07, which is one grade below.Experience at this level includes, but is not limited to, assigning and evaluating junior staff work.
