Description
Puget Sound Educational Service District seeks a dynamic, highly skilled Student Assistance Professional - Prevention & Intervention to provide prevention and early intervention directly to students (ages 10-21) at Bethel School District. The Learning Support Services department places Student Assistance Professionals in schools to implement comprehensive student assistance programs that address problems associated with substance use, violence, and mental health issues. The purpose of this position is to implement and provide prevention & intervention services to students in collaboration with assigned school districts under the general direction of the Prevention Programs Supervisor and /or Director. This job reports to Assigned Administrator.
Student Assistance Professionals reside in Bethel Middle School and Cougar Mountain Middle School within Bethel School District.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in developing drug and alcohol related policies at schools for the purpose of assuring best practice standards.
  • Attends training meetings at PSESD for the purpose of providing staff development and assessing program effectiveness.
  • Conducts early intervention/insight programs for students experimenting with alcohol/drug use or suspended for alcohol/drug use for the purpose of reducing and/or mitigating substance abuse, and improving health and learning preparedness.
  • Coordinates activities with student assistance team for the purpose of identifying high risk students and referring them to school and community-based services.
  • Develops and implements work plans to prioritize school service needs at each site for the purpose of assuring effective strategies and maintaining program standards.
  • Develops and implements an identification and referral process for school staff, students, and parents for the purpose of providing substance abuse reduction strategies and improving health and learning preparedness.
  • Develops and implements prevention plans for the purpose of ensuring students are safe, healthy, supported, engaged, challenges, and actively participating in their school experiences.

  • Facilitates school-based recovery support groups for the purpose of decreasing substance abuse and improving health and learning preparedness.
  • Maintains confidential program records and files; compile and input data for the purpose of complying with funding requirements and maintaining best practices.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars for the purpose of conveying/gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Participates in program evaluation for the purpose of evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Presents program components to students and teachers for the purpose of sharing resources that support substance abuse reduction and improve health and learning preparedness.
  • Provides standardized screening and referral information to students and parents participating in the prevention/intervention program for the purpose of assisting students with effective intervention support.
  • Provides individual & family counseling services within the student assistance framework for the purpose of delivering services in conformance to established guidelines.
  • Provides school wide awareness (prevention) programs for staff, students, and parents for the purpose of reducing and/or mitigating substance abuse and improving health and learning preparedness.
  • Provides staff development training on various topics (e.g. tobacco, alcohol and drug prevention, intervention, mental health, physical health, engagement strategies, etc.) for the purpose of sharing expertise and resources on prevention/intervention strategies and building team capacity.

Minimum Qualifications
  • AA degree or higher in Social Services, Human Services, Counseling, or other related field; or a SUDP, SUDP/T, or High School Diploma/GED equivalent with increasing years of relevant job-related experience. Candidates with a High School Diploma/GED must agree to obtain a CPP within 18 months of start date with agency support.
  • Experience working in a youth serving program or agency with an emphasis on prevention and early intervention of violence, alcohol, tobacco and/or other drug use, mental health, or other social or public health issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with school-based student assistance programs or youth-based educational support groups.
  • Experience working with community-based coalitions.
  • Presentation experience.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
