Job Description
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
This full-semester contract opportunity offers a professional role as a Special Education Teacher in an elementary school setting located near Poughkeepsie, NY. The position is based in the New Windsor area, serving students placed through public school referrals into self-contained classrooms. These classrooms maintain small group sizes ranging from 6 to 12 students, each supported by one lead teacher and three additional classroom staff members. Student groupings are carefully determined based on individualized education program (IEP) needs and functional levels, with some students requiring personalized behavior plans.
There are two primary openings:
Kindergarten/Elementary Special Education Teacher
Preschool Special Education Teacher (SFP Program)
Key Qualifications and Requirements:
Valid state teaching certification in Early Childhood or K12 special education
State clearances and background checks completion
Experience working with students with diverse special education needs and IEPs
Ability to implement individualized behavior plans when necessary
Strong communication and collaborative skills to work effectively with classroom staff and school administration
Responsibilities include delivering specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals, managing classroom environments, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and maintaining accurate student records.
