My friend Erin emailed me about a couples shower she and her husband are hosting soon. She’s thinking about serving a signature cocktail similar to the delicious blackberry-lemonade-vodka concoction served at Art & Jenny’s wedding last April and asked for my input.

Berries and vodka

Erin — by the way — has three children under the age of three. Let me repeat that so it can sink in for you. Erin has THREE children under the age of three.

Blackberries in Vodka

I don’t know how she has time to throw a shower for anyone, let alone to prepare a special cocktail for it. Then again, as the mother of three children under the age of three, Erin could probably use a special cocktail or ten.

Instead of just emailing her back with my thoughts, I went the extra mile by actually making the cocktail. You see, I am really nice like that. If a friend needs help creating a cocktail, I am willing to drop everything and swoop in to help. I will even sample said cocktail, but only because I really like helping people out. 😉

Soda & Limeade

Besides, it’s important that someone do a trial run in advance, just to make sure the signature cocktail is up to par for serving at a party.

Signature Cocktail

Even if you don’t have a party coming up, you could still make this lip-smacking potable, perhaps to serve to your husband while he reorganizes the garage on a Saturday…

… or to celebrate your baby turning five months old. 🙂

EBD 5 months

Whatever your celebration, I think you’ll be pleased to make this Blackberry Limeade Cocktail your signature.

Signature Cocktail

BLACKBERRY LIMEADE COCKTAIL (pdf)

  • Crushed or pellet ice (I hear you can buy pellet ice at Sonic)
  • Blackberry-infused vodka (recipe below)
  • Limeade
  • Club soda
  • Fresh blackberries for garnish
  • Fresh mint for garnish
  • Fresh limes for garnish

Fill each glass almost to the top with ice. Pour in 1 ounce blackberry-infused vodka, 2 ounces limeade, and then 2 ounces club soda. Garnish with blackberries, a mint sprig, and a lime slice. Serve with a straw. (I found those nifty paper straws on Etsy, btw.)

For a party, you could mix up a batch of this in advance and serve it out of pitchers. Just make sure you do 1 part vodka, 2 parts limeade, and 2 parts soda; and pour into ice-filled glasses (no ice in the pitchers). I would add blackberries and lime slices to the pitchers so they look pretty.

BLACKBERRY-INFUSED VODKA

  • Fresh blackberries
  • Vodka

I would do 1 liter of vodka with at least 1 pint of blackberries. Very lightly crush the blackberries in your hand and place in a sealable jar or Tupperware container. Pour vodka over the berries and let sit for about a week. (The vodka sucks the color from the berries, so don’t freak out if your berries start turning whitish.) Strain the vodka and discard the berries.

Slurp slurp,

Hannah

Haha… at that point most of it was outside the garage. Or maybe I should just let everyone think we’re minimalists? 😉
