My friend Sasha — a fellow big-sister who very accurately (and perhaps somewhat kindly) referred to me as “Type A” — requested a peek at the Thanksgiving playlist I mentioned in this earlier blog post. When selecting music for a dinner playlist, I like to stick with a loose theme. This year I’m going for a jazzy, piano-y, holiday-ish sound and keeping lots of Vince Guaraldi (most famous for scoring “Peanuts”), Oscar Peterson, and George Winston in rotation. I also threw in a taste of the Carwiles, a Kentucky-based couple who happen to be two of the most renowned bluegrass artists in the nation.
So here’s my Thanksgiving Dinner Playlist:
  • Blues for Peanuts by Vince Guaraldi
  • Charlie’s Blues by Vince Guaraldi Trio
  • Christmas Is Coming by Vince Guaraldi Trio
  • Gravy Waltz by Oscar Peterson & Ray Brown
  • Great Pumpkin Waltz by Vince Guaraldi Trio
  • Happiness Is by Vince Guaraldi Trio
  • Harvest Medley by Daniel & Amy Carwile
  • Joy by George Winston
  • Oh, Good Grief by Vince Guaraldi Trio
  • Skating by Vince Guaraldi
  • Some Children See Him by George Winston
  • Autumn Leaves by Oscar Peterson
  • Thanksgiving by George Winston
  • Thanksgiving Theme by Vince Guaraldi Trio
  • Variations On the Kanon by Pachelbel by George Winston

Last year my Thanksgiving dinner playlist was all Vitamin String Quartet. If you’ve never heard of them, be sure to check them out on iTunes. They take contemporary songs (oh that makes me sound so old) and play the string quartet version. Somehow, everything from Nirvana to Madonna to Guns’N’Roses sounds dinner party elegant and holiday-friendly when played by a string quartet. (Their rendition of Sweet Child o’ Mine gets my top vote.)

xoxo,
Hannah

P.S. I know what you’re thinking — “Whoa whoa whoa… TWO blog posts in a day??” I know. Don’t ever expect it again. But Thanksgiving is coming and there is just so much to talk about.  🙂

I would definately add some from Blackbery Farm Bluegrass – it just feels like Thanksgiving.

THANK YOU so much for posting your playlist! I was sweating finding the time to put together a soundtrack that would soothe the soul during our family dinner and you delivered the perfect music package! From one southern belle to another: Happy Thanksgiving!
